Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Katie Paterson(b.1981) collaborates with scientists and researchers in the field of astronomy and cosmology. She records natural phenomena such as space, moon, star, glacier, and allows us to reconsider our position in relation to geological time and transition. She broadcasted the sounds of a melting glacier live, mapped all the dead stars, and complied into a slide archive of darkness from the depths of the universe. Her monumental works collapse the distance between the viewer and the most distant edges of time and the cosmos. Paterson was selected as one of the four ‘Best Young Artists’ by the Observer, London, establishing her position as one of the representatives of the millennial artists. In 2014, she was the winner of the Visual Arts category of the South Bank Awards. Paterson has exhibited worldwide in major cities including London, Berlin, New York, and Seoul.
