PKM 갤러리는 2026년 화랑미술제에서 정현(b.1956)의 솔로 부스를 선보인다. 정현은 한국을 대표하는 현대 조각가로, 지난 40여 년간 인간과 존재의 본질을 탐구하며 재료가 지닌 에너지와 시간성을 드러내는 작업을 이어왔다. 이번 부스에서는 그의 작업의 출발점인 인체 브론즈 조각을 중심으로 정현의 작품 세계를 조망한다.
정현의 인체 브론즈 작업은 원재료인 흙을 삽이나 각목 등의 도구로 반복해서 내리치고 거칠게 잘라내는 과정을 통해 직관적이면서 투박한 형상을 형성한다. 작가의 물리적 제스쳐가 남긴 표면의 강렬한 질감은 시간의 흔적이 응축된 듯한 단단한 밀도를 지니며, 오랜 시간을 견뎌온 존재를 마주하는 듯한 인상을 자아낸다. 한편, 백색의 마케트 작업은 청계천 수표교 교각을 모티브로 한 브론즈 조각이다. 교각을 3D 스캔해서 얻은 데이터를 조합, 변형한 뒤 브론즈로 전환한 이 작업은, 수백 년을 잇는 시간과 역사의 흐름을 교각 위에 물결의 형태로 구현한다. 2025년 PKM 갤러리 개인전 «그의 겹쳐진 순간들 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘶𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘵»을 성공적으로 마친 정현은 현재 국내외 주요 컬렉터들의 높은 관심을 받으며 활발한 활동을 이어가고 있다.
정현은 국립현대미술관, 서울시립 남서울미술관, 금호미술관, 김종영미술관, 파리 팔레 루아얄 정원 등에서 열린 약 30회의 개인전을 비롯해 다수의 전시를 통해 작업 세계를 확장해왔다. 2024년 제2회 김복진미술상, 2014년 제28회 김세중조각상, 2006년 국립현대미술관 올해의 작가상, 2004년 김종영미술관 오늘의 작가상 등을 수상했으며, 그의 작품은 리움미술관, 국립현대미술관, 서울시립미술관, 경기도미술관, 부산시립미술관 등 주요 미술 기관에 소장되어 있다.
PKM Gallery is pleased to present a solo booth by CHUNG, Hyun (b. 1956) at the Galleries Art Fair 2026. One of Korea’s leading contemporary sculptors, CHUNG has spent over four decades exploring the essence of humanity and existence while unveiling the energy and temporality inherent in his materials. The presentation centers on his figurative bronze sculptures—the starting point of his practice—offering a view into his artistic world.
CHUNG’s figurative bronze works are formed through a process of repeatedly striking and roughly cutting the raw clay with tools such as shovels and timber sticks, resulting in intuitive, rough-hewn forms. The intense surface texture marked by the artist’s physical gestures possess a dense presence, as if traces of time have been compressed within it, evoking the sense of encountering a being that has endured over time. Meanwhile, the white maquettes are bronze sculptures inspired by the stone piers of 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘺𝘰𝘨𝘺𝘰 Bridge on the Cheonggyecheon stream. Created by synthesizing and transforming 3D scan data of the piers before casting them in bronze, these works manifest the flow of time and history—spanning several centuries—into the form of water ripples atop the pillars. Following the success of his 2025 solo exhibition 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘶𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘵 at PKM Gallery, CHUNG continues to attract significant attention from major domestic and international collectors.
CHUNG has held around 30 solo exhibitions, including those at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Gwacheon, Korea), Nam-Seoul Museum of Art (Seoul, Korea), Kumho Museum of Art (Seoul, Korea), Kim Chong Yung Museum (Seoul, Korea), and Jardin du Palais Royal (Paris, France). CHUNG has received several awards, including the Kim Bok-jin Art Award (2024), Kim Sechoong Sculpture Award from the Kim Sechoong Memorial Association (2014), Artist of the Year from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (2006), and Artist Today from the Kim Chong Yung Museum (2004). His works are held in the collections of the Leeum Museum of Art, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, the Seoul Museum of Art, the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, the Busan Museum of Art, and other major institutions.
