구현모(b.1974)는 특유의 시적 서정성과 종이, 나뭇가지, 돌멩이와 같은 주변의 재료에 대한 공감각적 접근 방식으로 실재와 허구, 원리와 현상 등 표면상 이분법적으로 보이는 두 개념의 경계를 섬세하게 가로질러 왔다. 관람객의 시점과 오브제의 움직임에 따라 열린 해석이 가능한 작가의 설치작업은 일상적 시간과 장소의 틈새를 파고들어 우리가 일반적으로 인지하던 시공간에 대한 지각을 흔들어 놓는다. 구현모는 독일의 베를린, 라이프치히, 드레스덴 등지에서 활발하게 활동해왔으며, 아르코미술관, 성곡미술관, OCI 미술관, 아트센터 나비 등 유수의 미술기관에서 개최하는 전시에 참여했다. 2009 년에는 노벨상 수상자들의 산지이자 기초과학, 인문학, 예술 등 다학제 간 연구를 독려하는 막스플랑크연구소에서 미술상을 수상하였다. 그의 작품은 드레스덴 국립미술관에 영구 소장되어 있다.
Koo Hyunmo(b.1974) blurs the boundaries of two seemingly dichotomous notions such as reality and fiction, principle and phenomenon through his distinct poetic lyricism and spatial approach to ordinary materials that include paper, branches, and stones. Koo’s installation works are open to interpretation according to the viewer’s standpoint and the object’s location. His works infiltrate the gap between time and space and revert our previous understanding of them. Koo has been workings in different cities including Berlin, Leipzig, and Dresden. In 2009, Koo received the Art Award from MPI-CBG, the birthplace of Nobel laureates as well as an institution devoted to encouraging interdisciplinary research in the fields of basic science, humanities, and arts. Koo’s works are included in the collection of Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (Dresden, Germany).
