Gabriel Orozco(b.1962), born in the port city of Veracruz, focuses on the fragile relationship between every object to one another and to human beings to question and reinvent the overlooked reality in our everyday lives. Orozco’s works that range from drawing, painting, sculpture, video, large-scale installation engage the imagination and artistic communication in our daily lives. In 1993, for his solo show at MoMa, Orozco rolled a ball of plasticine equivalent in weight to the artist’s body through the streets of Manhattan and then displayed a photograph of the dusted ball. The exhibition allowed the artist to gain increased recognition in the international art world. Orozco travels to major cities such as Paris, New York, Sao Paulo to present site-specific works that capture each city’s local context. The artist participated in various group shows at major art institutions such as Hirshhorn Museum (Washington D.C., USA), Centre Pompidou (Paris, France), Tate Modern (London, UK), and Kunstmuseum Basel (Basel, Switzerland). His works are in the collections of Museum of Modern Art (New York, USA), Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (New York, USA), Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, USA).
