S2A에서 윤형근을 비롯한 한국 미술의 거장들을 조망하는 단체전이 열리고 있습니다. 겸재 정선의 자연, 추사 김정희의 필법, 윤형근의 색면이 한자리에서 만나 한국 전통 예술과 현대 미술을 잇는 조형 언어를 탐색합니다. 미술사학자 유홍준이 기획에 참여해 전시에 깊이를 더했습니다.
1979년 유홍준과의 인터뷰에서 윤형근은 “내 붓질의 뿌리는 추사 김정희에 있어요. 추사의 필, 정확하게는 획을 긋는 법에서 배웠다오.”라고 밝히며, 자신의 작업이 추사의 필법을 계승했음을 직접 언급한 바 있습니다.
이번 전시에는 윤형근이 생전 존경했던 미술평론가 김윤수 전 국립현대미술관 관장에게 선물한 작품도 포함됩니다. 이 작품은 윤형근을 국제무대에 알리는 데 중요한 역할을 한 미국 미술평론가 조셉 러브의 글을 김 관장이 번역해준 것에 대한 감사의 의미로 건넨 것으로, 윤형근 작품활동의 중요한 전환점이 되었던 순간과 그와 인연이 깊었던 인물들을 떠올리게 합니다. 전시는 2025년 3월 22일까지.
S2A Gallery presents a group exhibition highlighting Yun Hyong-keun alongside distinguished masters of Korean art. This exhibition explores the visual language that bridges traditional Korean art and contemporary art, bringing together Jeong Seon’s perception of nature, Kim Chŏnghŭi's calligraphic discipline, and Yun Hyong-keun’s color fields within a single space. With the curatorial insight of art historian Yoo Hong-jun, the exhibition offers a deeper understanding of these artistic legacies and their lasting influence.
In a 1979 interview with Yoo, Yun Hyong-keun stated, “The roots of my brushwork lie in Kim Chŏnghŭi. I learned from the precision of his strokes, the very method of drawing lines,” directly acknowledging that his abstract compositions carries on Kim’s calligraphic tradition.
Also featured is a work personally gifted by Yun Hyong-keun to Kim Yoon-Soo, the esteemed art critic and former director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. Presented as a gesture of gratitude for Kim’s translation of a critiques by Joseph Love, the American art critic who played a crucial role in introducing Yun’s work to the international art scene, the piece recalls a pivotal moment in Yun’s artistic career and the figures who were closely connented to him. The exhibition runs until March 22, 2025.
