국립현대미술관 청주 미술품수장센터에서 지난 7월 12일 개최한 «보이는 수장고: 유영국»에서 기관 소장품인 故 유영국 화백의 ‹산› 시리즈 5점을 만나볼 수 있습니다.
1968년부터 1974년 사이에 제작된 유 화백의 ‹산› 시리즈를 연도 순으로 선보인 본 전시는, 한국 자연이 지닌 고유의 아름다움을 원색의 강렬한 색채와 기하학적으로 절제된 도상으로써 탐구하는 과정의 변천을 드러냅니다. 이를 통해 단순 재현에서 나아가 자연의 숭고미를 추상의 양식으로 구현하며 한국 추상 미술의 발전을 앞서 이끈 유 화백의 선구적 역할을 조명합니다.
‘보이는 수장고’는 관람객이 유리창을 통해 수장고 내부를 직접 바라보며, 작품이 관객과의 만남을 통해 완성된다는 개념을 반영합니다. 유 화백의 작품은 자연과 인간, 전시 공간과 외부 환경 사이의 경계를 넘나들며, 관람객에게 색다른 경험과 새로운 시각을 제공합니다. 전시는 9월 29일까지.
At the MMCA Cheongju National Art Storage, the exhibition 𝘝𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦: 𝘠𝘰𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨𝘬𝘶𝘬, which opened on July 12, showcases five pieces from the museum’s collection of Yoo Youngkuk’s Mountain series. This exhibition presents works created between 1968 and 1974, arranged chronologically, highlighting Yoo's exploration of Korea's natural beauty through intense primary colors and restrained geometric forms. Yoo's pioneering role in abstract art, where he transcended representation to express the sublime beauty of nature, is underscored.
‘The Visible Storage’ concept allows visitors to view the storage facility through glass, symbolizing the completion of the artwork through audience interaction. Yoo's works traverse the boundaries between nature, humanity, the exhibition space, and the external environment, offering a fresh, dynamic experience. The exhibition runs until September 29.
