올라퍼 엘리아슨의 개인전, 《The curious desert》가 3월 18일부터 카타르 국립 박물관에서 진행 중입니다. 이번 전시는 작가가 걸프 지역에서 선보이는 첫 작품전으로 박물관에서는 워터컬러, 조각, 사진 등을 포함한 기존 구작들이, 카타르 북방 지역 알 다키라 맹그로브의 사막에서는 장소 특정적 설치미술 신작들이 소개됩니다.
카타르를 상징하는 사막 지역을 예술을 실험하는 장으로 전환하는 방법에 대하여 고심했던 엘리아슨은 실제 사막에 위치한 야외 전시장에 12개의 거대한 파빌리온을 세웠습니다. 장막이 드리워진 각 파빌리온과 설치 작품들은 저마다의 형태로 출몰하는 하루와 사계절 흐름 속 사막의 바람, 물, 그리고 햇빛의 움직임과 그림자를 유연히 담아내며 관람객이 카타르의 기후를 보다 다이내믹한 방법으로 흡수할 수 있는 체험 환경을 이끌어냅니다. 전시는 8월 15일까지.
Olafur Eliasson’s solo exhibition, The curious desert, currently on view at the National Museum of Qatar from March 18th. This exhibition is the artist's first showcase in the Gulf region, featuring existing works including watercolors, sculptures, and photographs, as well as site-specific installations of new artwork in the Al Thakhira Mangroves desert region of northern Qatar.
Eliasson pondered on how to transform the desert area, symbolizing Qatar, into an experimental venue for art. To accomplish this, he erected 12 giant pavilions in an outdoor exhibition space located in the actual desert. Each pavilion and installation artwork, draped with tents, captures the movements of the desert's wind, water, sunlight, and shadows in its unique form, allowing visitors to experience the dynamic climate of Qatar in a flexible and absorbing manner. The exhibition will run until August 15th.
