올라퍼 엘리아슨의 대규모 개인전 《Presence》가 브리즈번 현대미술관(GOMA)에서 개최되었습니다. 빛과 색, 지각의 경계를 탐험하는 이번 전시의 핵심 작품 〈Presence〉는 단일 노란색 단색광으로 공간을 가득 채우며 거대한 태양을 시뮬레이션합니다. 직물과 이중 알루미늄 메쉬로 만든 패턴 레이어들이 관람객의 움직임에 따라 역동적인 모아레 효과를 만들어냅니다. 아이슬란드의 빙하수 하천에서 영감을 받은 〈Riverbed〉는 물과 100톤이 넘는 돌로 실내 공간에 강을 만들었습니다. 편광 필터를 활용한 신작 〈Your negotiable vulnerability seen from two perspectives〉와 〈Your truths〉는 관람객의 움직임에 따라 검은색이 흰색으로 변하고, 보이지 않던 형태가 갑자기 나타나며 ‘진실’과 ‘관점’에 대한 우리의 인식에 질문을 던집니다. 〈The Hekla twilight series〉는 아이슬란드의 헤클라 화산 지역에서 촬영한 20점의 사진 연작으로, 지평선 위를 맴도는 태양이 만드는 긴 황혼의 황금빛이 눈 덮인 산봉우리를 물들이는 장면을 포착합니다. 각자가 작품의 공동 창작자가 되어 독특한 방식으로 경험하는 이 전시는 호기심을 가지고 천천히 탐험할수록 더 깊은 의미를 발견하게 합니다. 전시는 내년 7월 12일까지.

Exploring the boundaries of light, colour and perception, 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 floods the gallery in yellow monofrequency light, simulating a vast sun. Layers of pattern—first printed onto fabric then created via a double layer of aluminium mesh—generate a dynamic moiré effect activated by our motion. Inspired by meltwater streams in Iceland, 𝘙𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘦𝘥 creates a river within the gallery space with water and over 100 tonnes of stones. The new polarisation works 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 and 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘴 use filters to challenge what we perceive as ‘truth’: as visitors move, black becomes white and coloured forms suddenly emerge or disappear, inviting us to shift between perspectives. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘬𝘭𝘢 𝘵𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 is a series of 20 photographs taken in Iceland’s Hekla volcano region, capturing the golden glow of extended twilight as the sun hovers over the horizon, casting its light upon snow-covered mountain peaks. Embodying the artist’s belief in the audience as co-creators, this exhibition reveals deeper meaning the more slowly and curiously you explore.
