조덕현 작가의 이인성미술상 수상전 ≪조덕현: to thee 그대에게≫가 대구미술관에서 열리고 있습니다. 이인성미술상은 한국 근대미술사에 큰 족적을 남긴 대구 출신 故이인성 화백의 예술 정신을 기리고, 국내 중견 회화작가를 적극 후원하여 한국 현대미술의 발전에 기여하고자 1999년 대구시가 제정한 미술상입니다. 제20회 수상작가인 조덕현은 전시 ≪to thee 그대에게≫를 통해 거대역사에서 누락된 과거의 개인들을 기억하는 문제에서 나아가, 현재와 미래를 재고하는 데서 오는 가치들에 관해 이야기합니다. 길이 9.7m에 달하는 초대형 신작 회화 <플래시포워드(flashforward)>를 포함하여 40여 점의 작품들이 전시에서 소개되는데, 특히 신작들은 대구 시민들이 겪은 초기 코로나19 유행의 고난과 그 극복, 그리고 작가가 영남 지역을 두루 답사하면서 마주한 유구한 역사 및 자연 경관에서 모티브를 얻은 것입니다. 조덕현 작가와 ≪to thee 그대에게≫에 많은 관심 바랍니다. 전시는 2021년 1월 17일까지.

LEEINSUNG Art Prize winner Cho Duck Hyun’s exhibition, titled ‘Cho Duck Hyun: to thee,’ is currently on view at the Daegu Museum of Art. The LEEINSUNG Art Prize was founded by the Daegu Metropolitan City Government in 1999 to honor the artistic spirit of Lee In-sung, an artist who has left a huge impact in the history of modern Korean art, and to contribute to the development of Korean contemporary art by actively supporting established Korean painters. In the exhibition, the 20th award-winning artist, Cho Duck Hyun, talks about the values that come from reconsidering the present and future, as well as issues arising from remembering the left out individuals of the past among the larger history. More than 40 works, including the 9.7-meter-long large-scale painting, flashforward, are on display at the exhibition. Especially his new works were inspired by the hardships faced by the people of Daegu due to the COVID-19 and how they overcame such difficulties. The long history and grand nature of Yeongnam province that Cho discovered during his trip to the region also served as important motifs for the creation of his new works. ‘Cho Duck Hyun: to thee’ runs through Jan. 17, 2021.
